Do I really need a Trademark for my podcast or YouTube channel?

What's all this buzz about trademarks, and do you need one for your podcast or youtube channel?

Welcome to another episode of Legit Podcast Pro from Gordon Firemark, The Podcast Lawyer™

A Trademark is a distinctive word, symbol or phrase that is affixed to goods or services to identify their source or origin, and to distinguish one product from the other. Imagine that you've spent time, money and energy building your brand, and then someone else comes along, starts their own show or channel, names it the same as yours, or in a way that could lead to confusion about its source, and your audience starts finding them instead of you.

Can you see how that could hurt your business? Your traffic? Your revenue? Your reputation? A registered trademark gives you the tools… the ammunition you need to prevent that from happening… and to quickly resolve things if it does occur.

And, while it does cost something to register your trademark, it's a good bet that the cost is far outweighed by the harm that could come if you haven't taken this important step.

Bottom line, getting your intellectual property rights in order is one of the most important legal steps to take if you want to build and grow a successful media venture, Intellectual Property strategy is one of the pillars of my Easy Legal For Podcasters program, where you can learn step-by-step, how to handle it for yourself, if you're so inclined.
